As Aventuras de Bambolina

AS AVENTURAS DE BAMBOLINA

Release

Bambolina is an old doll, as any other one, that lives with its owner…until the day when, suddenly, is thrown away! Alone, without affection, a home…Might someone want Bambolina again?

After many adventures, Bambolina finally figures out its true destination, and ends its story as if a star of a theater group of animated puppets.

Since the moment when the company Pia Fraus has found the homonym book of Michele Iacocca (a story entirely “written” with images, without words, and with a doll like protagonist) the identification was immediate! It was the first time the group found a visual book with a deep and poetical subject, and with the presence of a puppet as main character. All of these things are close to Pia Fraus, a Brazilian theater group that turned 25 years-old in 2009 and works mainly with puppets techniques and with no use of words. It is also important to remember that the book “The Adventures of Bambolina” was sealed like “highly recommendable” by Brazilian Foundation of Books for Children.

The adaptation tries to recreate the atmosphere of the book and the traces of its author. During the process, the group counted on the author for this.

The spectacle is based in the corporal work of the actors, the composition of each character and, mainly, the relationship of these with Bambolina, trying to get them closer to the drawings of the book.

The animation of the scene creates a different choreography. It is composed by big pictures that are encased as if a giant book, whose pages are possible of being pulled out and dislocated over the stage. In this way, different compositions and choreographies are created using the drawings that illustrate the original story: Bambolina’s first owner room, a square in downtown, a viaduct and even a theater are manipulated over the stage, strengthening the idea that the play came from a book that is being read at the moment.

The relationship of the actors with objects and their movements interact with children’s tricks: a policy car used like a toy, a doll that becomes a dance partner, plays to run away from police…Even the clothes follow these rules and show the old girls dolls plays with clothes made of paper…

All these things try to reach a funniest language, close to the context of the book, what makes the act of reading an amusing trick for all.
