The new adult spectacle of Pia Fraus is based on four short stories from the book “Primeiras Estórias”, by Guimarães Rosa.

The banks of joy, The third bank of the river, The horse that drank beer and Sequence were the stories chosen. With great respect and great freedom, we give our testimony about this precious book of Guimarães Rosa.

With the design of the piece by Beto Andreetta, Pia Fraus, Alexandre Fávero, Miguel Vellinho, Carlos Lagoeiro and Wanderley Piras were invited to conduct, in their own way, one of the chosen stories.

Alexandre Fávero (from the company Lumbra, Porto Alegre) directs The banks of joy, using the technique of shadow theater.

Miguel Vellinho (from PeQuod, in Rio de Janeiro) works the integration of the actoral interpretation to a rigorous work of confection and manipulation of puppets to narrate The third margin of the river.

Carlos Lagoeiro (from the Munganga Theater, Holland) uses small puppets manipulated in front of the public and projected on large screens to tell the origin of the story The horse that drank beer.

Wanderley Piras (from Cia da Tribo, São Paulo) has the responsibility to perform the sewing between the stories fragmenting Sequence, the story of a kitty trying to return to its place of origin. Through tables, moving around the stage, our kitty (a doll manipulated by several actors) goes against his native land.

This show is the milestone of Pia Fraus’ 25th anniversary celebrations, which also marks the return to research of the work of a Brazilian author after 13 years working with universal classics and the exchange with different groups of animation theater, to celebrate their long journey together theatrical.
